Call them the all-stars: GM is reviving all the faces and voices that have hawked the company’s vehicles throughout history. In a tragic sense of regression, the GM ads move from the Marilyn Monroe era to the modern-day ads with Carmen Electra. Potentially more troubling, the ads will debut on Survivor: Panama-Exile Island, on May 11. (Does anyone care if the survivors live or die anymore, really? And why isn’t anyone filming Richard Hatch’s prison stint?) The 60-second spots in GM’s “Then and Now” ads also feature Jeremy Piven and Tiger Woods, and will also be shown before movies in select AMC theaters, so make sure to tack on another minute of moaning about how movie previews take too long these days.

The stylist who penned the Ford GT supercar had a different job on this week’s run of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Camilo Pardo joined shouting head Ty Pennington and the rest of the crew of laborers, contractors and hangers-on to rework the home of the Peter family of Queens, N.Y. The Guyanese family, now living in America, lost their home to fire in 2004 and had been living in the burned-out shell. Pardo joined in with the effort to design a bedroom specifically for 21-year-old son Monesh, an aspiring car designer. Pardo put together bedroom furniture derived from the Ford GT parts bin, including a desk chair made from a GT seat and a lamp made from one spare supercar headlamp, forever earning the envy of Peter’s brothers and more likely, the dudes over at Popular Mechanics. The room also got wallpaper made of Ford GT designs and original artwork from Pardo’s collection. The family also received a 2007 Expedition EL from the show.

Don't look now, but the guy in the picture above wants you in an Audi Q5 and an Audi Nuvolari. He's just really good at hiding his enthusiasm.

Saturn's new Sky - hey, at least it's a name we can spell correctly, unlike VUE, ION and other ALL-CAPS ABOMINATIONS. (MINI, can you hear me?)

VW is sticking with BP despite having no small U.S. SUV. The C1 is D.O.A., but other new products are coming from his company ASAP. Here's hoping, despite some opinions at TCC, they'll be the 411.

Thanks to New Orleans' NBC affiliate, WDSU-TV, for taping our editor for his NBC Nightly News appearance this week on Toyota passing Chrysler. We apologize for baring ourselves on camera and begging the lensmen to "throw me something, mister." I mean, Mardi Gras was months ago.

HBO star James Gandolfini certainly knows how to destroy a persona off-camera, doesn't he?

Politicians using golf carts to get to work on the public's business - what a hoot! Next thing you know, they'll be wearing lots of makeup and big floppy shoes and piling in and out of VW Beetles just for laughs! (TCC calls dibs on said footage of Nancy Pelosi.)

Lastly this week, TheCarConnection pleads for you to make this month's Letters column at least as interesting as that from April. Just dial back the hostility a bit, or we're having that restraining order re-enacted.
