Minus any details of its powertrain or other hardware, these are the first pics of the BMW X1 concept that will be shown off tomorrow at the biannual auto show in Paris.

The concept is a thinly veiled version of the 2010 BMW X1 that's heading to market with a mechanical twin, a new MINI off-roader that could be called Crossman.

Both cars are based on the mechanicals of the 1 Series. And while BMW hasn't released any of the specifications of the concept, it's understood the new xDrive system that's used in the larger X3 will show up under the sheetmetal of the X1. Since it's derived from the 1 Series, a range of four- and six-cylinder engines should fit under its sculpted hood.

The styling's far more daring than today's X5 and X3. The X1 concept bears more of a resemblance to the Nissan Rogue and Hyundai Santa Fe than to its own stablemates. No interior shots have shown up online as of yet.

More photos and specifications should arrive tomorrow, as the Paris Expo opens its halls for the auto show. The bleary-eyed editors from TheCarConnection.com are on the scene, and so long as the Metro is running in the morning, we'll be there for daylong coverage of the show and its big introductions, including the X1.

Makes sense for today's $4 gas and $5 diesel.
I find styling OK, but over at Autoblog they posted the exact same pictures, even same color, and everybody else thought it looked terrible!
