A new survey finds a result that won't surprise anyone following the 2008 Presidential campaign: auto execs favor John McCain in the general election coming in November, reports the Detroit News.

McCain's no friend of the auto industry, as TheCarConnection.com has reported throughout the year. Not only has he adopted global warming as a campaign issue in an attempt to defang Democratic control of the climate change debate, McCain's also shown solidarity with Calif. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in his state's battle to set its own carbon-dioxide emissions rules. McCain, according to many Detroit insiders, could be a crapshoot as a president, in terms of industry politics.

As the News reports, from a recent survey by law firm Dykema Gossett PLLC, McCain's seen in Detroit as the candidate with the best chance for a positive impact on the auto industry. Some 70 percent of the 46 execs polled by the law firm in their 2008 Global Automotive Survey named him in that respect, but none of the three candidates -- McCain, Sen. Hillary Clinton, and Sen. Barack Obama -- were tagged as "pro-automotive."

Mainly, the study suggested, execs chose McCain only because the other candidates were seen as markedly anti-automotive. Almost 57 percent of those polled tagged Obama as the most negative candidate for the industry.

In addition, 87 percent of the polled had a negative outlook for the industry in the year ahead.

Hillary All the Way

The reason why McCain is strong in Dem states, all the big ones that Hillary has won, is because Obama and his vicious supporters made the huge mistake of callously maligning the Clintons and now, as a direct result, Hillary’s millions of loyal supporters will vote for McCain. Obama should never have run, it was too much too soon for him and the Dems will lose in November because of all Obama has done to divide the Democrats with his hate speech. Personally I am so disgusted with Obama and the elite of the Dem party supporting him I will be voting for Nader in November if Hillary is not on the ticket. I will also be registering as an Independent and disassociating with you disorganized, hate mongering, racist Obama/Democrats, I no longer want anything to do with it. Good riddance to you all and I hope Hillary does the same and runs as an Independent if she does not win the Dem nomination, the Clintons are good people, the most successful Democrats we have known and the Democrats do not deserve to have them, and it is high time we have a viable third party in America.

Hmmm… I didn’t realize this blog was about Hillary. Since you started it… Hillary is a two-faced opportunist with all the cunning of her husband, and none of his charisma. A Clinton nomination = a McCain presidency.

McCain does not lead in Detroit… He leads in Grosse Pointe and Bloomfield Hills.

The title is a little misleading. Of course McCain is going to lead with auto executives (and any other executives) because he has openly stated he wants to make the 2003 tax cuts permanent. I think that they’re saying McCain will be better for the industry but actually mean McCain will be better for them personally. Bush was backed buy executives and he slapped tarrifs on steel and the cost of gas has triples under his watch. Did he help the entire auto industry or just the ones making millions on stock options?

I haven’t seen a presidential candidate that looked out of the auto industry in years. Auto is the red-headed step-child of the American economy.
