It didn't take long for embargoed images of the new Volkswagen Golf to break free--as in this morning, courtesy Autoblog.nl (no relation to the upstanding cousins of AOL.) The Dutch site posted these pictures today of the sixth-generation Golf, which isn't entirely certain for a trip to the U.S., as VW is realigning its products in the U.S. so that one day, they can make money again here.

The new Golf shares a lot of its front-end cues with the Scirocco, which also isn't coming to the U.S. market. The range of engines includes the turbocharged 1.4-liter four, a 1.8-liter turbo and the direct-injection, 2.0-liter turbo four. Two diesels are on the option sheet, as is a DSG transmission. Start-stop technology is baked into the new Golf as well.

Meanwhile, VW of America is expected to soldier on with the current Golf and Jetta until a new factory in Chattanooga, Tenn., starts churning out a new pair of products designed expressly for us. Isn't that thoughtful?
