Toyota Doubles Subaru Stake
Email this page to your friend:
Yesterday, we reported on the possible Toyota-Subaru sports car under development. And today, Toyota's confirming that it's boosted its stake in Fuji Heavy Industries, the parent company of Subaru
Back in 2005, Toyota picked up an 8.7-percent stake in Fuji after General Motors sold its shares in the smaller Japanese automaker. Toyota's new stake in the company is 16.5 percent.
Toyota says that the move will lead to a revamping of its relationships with Subaru and also with Daihatsu, a Japanese car company specializing in minicars.

I think that anyone who has ever owned a Subaru, and I have, will understand what a great vehicle it is. The Boxer Engine is without a doubt the best engine out there. I guess the Germans appricate that engine as well! As far as I am concerned it is the best Japanesse car on the road, and worth the money. I believe that it is because they are interested in quality, not quanity. This could ruin Subaru if Toyotas thinking rubs off on them. Not that Toyota makes a bad car, just to many of them. I had a toyota that I sold with 225,000 miles and loved it. But I loved the Subaru more!

I WISH TOyota would kill Subaru styling. Subarus are , by far, the UGLIEST cars on the road.
Toyotas are boring, but at least not offensively ugly. Some subarus are pontiac aztec-ugly!

that is true, but if fuel prices keep going up I am not sure where they will sell them. And right now Subaru is its own brand. Toyota styling will kill it. Not sure Toyota can understand the people who buy Subaru's. I can see Toyota saying they need to revamp the SUbarus line up and killing what its made itself into in the last decade. Just my thoughts

SQUARE-ONE AUTOMOTIVE:
ALTHOUGH ACQUIRING 16.5 PERCENT OF SUBARU SEEMS LIKE NO BIG DEAL, IT COULD WELL BE JUST THAT. IT ALL DEPENDS ON HOW THE STOCK SHARES ARE SPLIT UP. 16.5 PECENT COULD VERY EASILY GIVE TOYOTA A CONTROLLING STAKE IN THE MUCH SMALLER CAR PRODUCER. THIS WOULD GIVE TOYOTA THE PERFECT OPPORTUNITY TO TRANSFORM THEIR SOMEWHAT UNDERWHELMING MATRIX XRS INTO A REAL GIANT KILLER. IF IT COMBINED THE STI POWERPLANT AND DRIVELINE WITH THE CURRENT XRS DESIGN LANGUAGE, THE END PRODUCT WOULD BE BOTH DYNAMIC AND PROVOCATIVE IN APPEARANCE, AND HIGHLY POTENT; MAKING IT A PERFECT ADDITION TO THE LEXUS F- BRANDED LINEUP. SOMEHING THAT WOULD HIGHLY ENERGIZE THE FLEDGLING ERFORMANCE SUB-BRAND; GENERATING A LOT OF POSITIVE INK FROM THE AUTMOTIVE PRESS. THE BEAUTY OF THIS TRANSFORMATION, IS THAT IT COULD BE ACCOMPLISHED SIMPLY BY SWAPPING BODY SHELLS. THE NEWLY VITALIZED SPORTWAGON WOULD BE A PERFECT STABLEMATE FOR THE CURRENT, STANDALONE IS-F. ADDING CONSIDERABLY TO LEXUS' REPUTATION AS A PERFORMANCE CAR BUILDER.
