VW Scirocco Spotted Stateside

A few months ago, Volkswagen of USA told TheCarConnection.com that the Scirocco hatch-coupe would not come to the U.S. The concern was that the new car would cut into the sales of the GTI.
VW may be changing its mind--or maybe it's just teasing all those Scirocco nuts who crave the return of the two-door. TCC's resident humidity expert, Cyrus Etemad-Moghadam, sent these pictures from his phone of a VW convoy in Oldsmar, Florida. There were two brand-new Sciroccos, one black and one white, two new Routan minivans and two Jetta Sportwagen TDI driving together. The Sciroccos had "2.0 TSI" labeling on the back. The GTI 2.0-liter TSI engine is is the larger of the two engines to be offered in Europe.
Maybe they changed their minds? If not, we can at least revive the debate. Do you think the Scirocco would butcher GTI sales in the U.S., or give VW a leg up on cousin Audi? Tell us in a comment below.
