The winners have been named -- and this year's World Car of the Year is the Mazda 2.
Ford's Mondeo and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class were the runners-up. WCOTY jurors said that the Mazda is a winner because of "its very appealing looks and high levels of standard equipment for the price.”
Earlier this year, ten finalists for the competition were announced as well as the finalists for World Performance Car, which went to the Audi R8, and World Green Car is the BMW 118d. The winners of the awards were selected by a panel of 47 auto journalists from around the world.
Other finalists included the following:
World Car of the Year
Audi A5 Coupe / Audi S5 Coupe
Audi R8
Cadillac CTS
Ford Mondeo
Ford S-Max
Mazda2 / Mazda Demio
Mercedes-Benz C-Class
Nissan Qashqai/Dualis

Volvo C30
The finalists for World Performance Car:

Audi R8
Audi S5 Coupe

OK, few clafirications:
ALTIMA IS NOT A CAMRY... Ghosn is going to have a heart attack...
The reason a lot of cars are missing from the list is that they have to be new or extensively changed for the model year and have be to sold. The GTR didn't make the list because of the sales date. I believe the same is true of the corvettes.

"In the other categories, the BMW 118d with Efficient Dynamics took home the World Green Car of the Year Award."
I am EXTREMELY pleased that they recognized the MODERN DIESEL with its monumental fuel efficiency AND clean operation, and that in a car that is absolutely fun to drive and not a lil'old lady prius with its skinny tires and poor handling.
Automakers selling cars in the US have a lot to learn on this subject.

Wake up guys - This is for World Car of the Year for 2007.
That means all-new cars introduced to their markets during calendar year 2007 - not the first quarter of 2008 (GTR & Z-06) or sometime earlier (Prius & anything Porsche)

Nissan Altima is basically a Camry hybrid (badge engineering to the max), what are these judges thinking??? If Nissan wins, Toyota should get the credit, jeeeez!

Borger, the Cadillac CTS *is* among the finalists, as it should be. I also noticed that there's not a single Toyota or Honda in the bunch, and I noted as well that GM has 5 of the top 10 finalists for World Green car, whereas again Toyota and Honda are both absent, which is a refreshing change of pace.

Not a Porsche selected among Best Performace Car?
How can the first Green Car be left off. The Pirus started it all.
Who was doing the selecting?

Sorry, but the Skyline in Japan IS the G37 coupe here in N. America.
The Skyline name no longer applies to the GT-R. It's just...GT-R

The Nissan Skyline Coupe IS the GTR.
