As Ford folks predicted behind the scenes earlier this year, the vacuum-inspired 2009 Ford Flex has earned five-star frontal- and side-impact ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).The Flex also gets a four-star rating for rollover resistance from the NHTSA.
Ford says the ratings for the new Flex are higher than those of the Toyota Highlander. Standard safety gear on the Flex includes anti-lock brakes, traction control, a mess of airbags, and Roll Stability Control.
The Flex's score wasn't unanticipated--it's derived from the five-star Taurus sedan. Nevertheless, since the road-test gurus here at TheCarConnection.com score cars and update as new information becomes available, we've boosted the Flex's score to a perfect 10 for safety. Read more over at the full review linked above--and stay tuned for ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety as soon as they become available.
