Back in January, we showed you our first spy pics of the new MINI off-roader, to be dubbed the Crossman. Now we've got better pics of the mini-ute -- far in advance of its on-sale date. The Crossman was previously referred to internally as the "Colorado" and will bring the MINI brand firmly into new territory. The Crossman is expected to ride higher than current models, and have all-wheel drive, making it a new option for weekend off-roaders. With these new capabilities, MINI plans to expand their customer base to include those young men who want something a little more "masculine" than the current MINI offerings.
The Crossman will be the first MINI to be assembled outside the U.K. Austrian manufacturer Magna Steyr will build the car, which is scheduled for release during the 2010 calendar year.--Brenda Priddy & Company

April 1st, 2008 - 11:11 pmWith stories like this and the Subaru one, it’s hard to tell which is the April Fool’s joke! If the Crossman turns out to be nothing more than a raised Clubman it will be a hard sell.

April 2nd, 2008 - 6:50 amI am not sure about that. The market for an AWD mini would be significant especially in the northern parts of the country. I hope they are considering making an AWD Cooper S in a true sport version, and then I would be very happy.
