2010 Saab 9-5Could it be--after a decade of living with the current Saab 9-5, is GM ready to commit to a new range-topper from Trollhattan?

Motor Authority reports today that this sketch of a future Saab was snapped at a Saab owners' convention. The styling theme's far more adventurous than today's car, which technically dates back to 1999 but shares elements with the Saab 9-5 that emerged in the early 1980s. (Remember, it was part of a four-company team: Saab's 9000, the Lancia Thema, Fiat Croma and Alfa Romeo 164.) The drawing also hints that the big Saab will move to a five-door body style with lots of Aero X-inspired themes.

As for powertrains, the Web site speculates that Saab's current Cross Wheel Drive system and a turbocharged V-6 engine are likely candidates for the new vehicle.

There's no word on when a new Saab 9-5 might make its first appearance, but the Geneva show of next year could provide some clues. We'll keep you posted.
