The covers might be off on the 2010 Ford Taurus -- and Ford isn't happy about it.
Yesterday, a single fuzzy shot of what's claimed to be the new Taurus surfaced on a few Web sites after first appearing on the Taurus Car Club of America site.
Though Ford's demanded that some blogs remove the blurry pic of the 2010 Taurus -- the Taurus club has complied -- at least one site, Edmunds' Inside Line, still is showing the photo, which appears to have been taken in a styling studio or possibly a consumer clinic.
The photo (we won't publish it here, since we didn't obtain it and can't comment on its legality) shows a more creased sedan with a distinct flair missing from the current Taurus, which was introduced in 2005 as the Ford Five Hundred and renamed for the 2008 model year. As Edmunds notes, it shows influences from Ford's European Mondeo sedan, but wears a three-bar grille similar to those cropping up on U.S.-market vehicles.
Edmunds says the Taurus likely will get an EcoBoost V-6 like the one expected to slot into Ford's new Flex. Outfitted with a six-speed automatic, the new Taurus likely will be introduced at the 2009 Detroit auto show.

April 9th, 2008 - 6:08 pmThe 2010 Taurus picture referred to is a very good looking car, especially compared to the current model. It is probably being released as an ‘10 model since Lincoln is releasing a near twin this coming summer as an MKS and it will want to be alone for at least a year!

April 10th, 2008 - 3:46 pmLet’s see if they leave the rims on or drip down to a steely with hubcaps. The car as it sits looks very nice even has an aggressive demeanor to it.

April 10th, 2008 - 8:35 pmNow if Ford could only come up with a decent, reliable transmission - unlike the one they put in my Mazda. Ford transmissions suck big time.

April 15th, 2008 - 9:00 amSpeaking of transmissions, I’d like a manual option such as I can get in the Accord and Camry. Ford transmissions may suck, but so do automatics in general, imo. I’d love to row my own gears in a Taurus X wagon with a direct-injection turbo 4, though they’d probably need a lighter platform to make it viable. Fords are very heavy these days.
As for the possible “new” look, I think it loses some of its distinction with the curvier Euro shape. Looks much like a Hyundai Sonata to me. I’d prefer they stick with the blockier American styling.
