TheCarConnection.com's spy photographers have spotted another BMW crossover prototype that's likely the new X1 crossover.The X1 will slot in to be positioned between the X3 and the upcoming MINI Crossman, with which the X1 shares its platform.
Our spies report that this prototype has rather low ground clearance. The interior is also a little plain for a BMW, but the X1 will have to be more price-conscious to be a success in America, where the new 1-Series has come to market far more expensive than planned.
This particular prototype has an automatic gearbox which could suit American customers well. The speedometer on this prototype has bigger mile markings than km/h markings, which shows that this is an American version.
As seen on one photo it looks like there will be an optional glass roof as well.
The X1 will probably be shown for the first time at the Frankfurt auto show in September 2009, though a concept version might be shown this fall in Paris.
