Hyundai will take some front-and-center space at this year's SEMA aftermarket extravaganza when it shows off this 2010 Genesis Coupe, suitably altered and blown by HKS.
The HKS tuners will unleash their version of hell on the Genesis Coupe, which bows early next year in V-6 and four-cylinder form. The plan is to install a turbo and engine-management controls, a new exhaust system and intake system, and a fully adjustable suspension to beef up its performance potential--along with the likelihood of Vin Diesel appearing publicly in one.
Also on tap: the rather obvious body add-ons from Ken Style, including a deep front-end air dam and some sill sculpting.
“We’ve designed Genesis Coupe from the start to be tuner-friendly,” John Krafcik,
Hyundai VP for product planning, in a release. “Partnering with an industry leader like HKS is a terrific way for us to stretch the performance envelope of Genesis Coupe.”
Sales of the stock Genesis Coupe start in spring, with a 212-horsepower turbo four standard and a 306-hp, 3.8-liter V-6 available optionally.

It's been semi-circulating around the Web in past weeks, but now, GM's media Web site has uploaded this first official photo of the
2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS. The SS version will be the hot, 6.2-liter V-8 version, in case you've spent the last two years toiling in the manor fields without access to the blogs.
Meanwhile, Chevrolet's letting some buff books
drive the V-6 version, in the hopes that everyone will feel OK when one of them is selected for the all-important first
Camaro V-8 road test. It's a beauty-pageant-style honor--sort of like being chosen Miss Amity or, say, Vice Presidential nominee. Frankly, we're pulling for Motor Trend, even though they just wish they had an editor as hot as Joe Biden. But who are we to judge?

The next
Nissan Titan--which will be a restyled version of this new
2009 Dodge Ram--is ditching its "Endurance" V-8 for a version of Chrysler's HEMI eight-cylinder engine.
Mike Levine over at
PickupTrucks.com reports that Nissan's truck engineers are basically handing over the next Titan to Dodge's truck team. The
Nissan engineers are laying out performance specs, while it's up to
Dodge to execute, he reports.
The deal isn't completely done yet, but Nissan's engineers expect the HEMI to be a part of the package, Levine says, along with a V-6 and a diesel.
Earlier this year, the two companies laid out the plan wherein the Ram would spin off a new version of the Titan.
Nissan will pay
Dodge to build the truck in Saltillo, Mexico, and will convert a big chunk of its Mississippi truck plant over to commercial-vehicle production.
Nissan and
Chrysler seem to be waltzing into each other's arms--along with the truck project, the two are working to bring a
Nissan Versa small car to
Chrysler showrooms. We wouldn't be surprised if the upcoming big crossover based on the
Nissan Forum concept ended up as a replacement for the
Chrysler Pacifica, either.
UPDATE:
PickupTrucks.com reports today that Chrysler's Jim Press confirms
Nissan will get the HEMI, but
Nissan spokespeople are still noncommittal.

Should
Toyota play it safe with the new
hybrid it's bringing to the Detroit show in January--or shoot for the moon with a 100-mpg Prius?
We've shown you spy shots of the 2010 Prius before its anticipated intro at the 2009 North American International
Auto Show in Detroit. But where the Prius has had things easy for a while, it's about to get some serious competition. This week, we're waiting on word for the
Chevrolet Volt, which could see a formal public intro on GM's centennial, September 16. We're also seeing some rumors that the
Honda small
hybrid that's due as a
Paris auto show concept will emerge this week.
Where does that leave the 2010 Prius? Toyota's putting
a fleet of plug-in Priuses in the hands of consumers next year, to see if the plug-in concept can become reality--but it's already reality for a group of owners that are putting more batteries and lithium-ion batteries into their Priuses. Owners like Colorado's Clarence Robinson have bought kits to add better battery power to their Priuses for
a claimed 100 mpg. While he uses extra lead-acid batteries to get the fuel-economy boost, companies are also offering lithium-ion batteries in kits that can turn Priuses and
Ford Escape hybrids into 100-mpg machines, the report adds.
Our question, then: does the Prius need to aim for the end zone with the new Prius, or is staying a step ahead of GM and
Honda enough? Your comments solicited below (and if you can boost our 42-mpg Prius at all, the garage is yours).

Lexus is planning a
convertible version of its IS sedan, but no coupe version is planned.
A report in
Autoblog, via eGMCarTech this morning, says that the
Lexus SC
convertible is history, and that a new IS
convertible is in the pipeline. TheCarConnection.com's sources report the new
convertible IS will be shown as soon as October's
Paris auto show.
The
Lexus IS
convertible won't quite let it mirror the
BMW 3 Series lineup, as no hardtop coupe version is planned for the current-generation car. However, the hardtop
convertible will bring
Lexus a new offering at a much lower price point than the expensive SC convertible--and reportedly, the styling will be much more cutting-edge than the SC.
Autoblog passes on word that the
Lexus cabrio will come in IS 250 and IS 350 models, and a lightweight IS sport sedan is in the pipeline.
The
Paris auto show opens to the press on October 2.
