Wrecked Maserati Gran TurismoIt's the schadenfreude capital of the Internet--Gregg's WreckedExotics Web site, where you earn you 15 minutes of fame by splitting, crashing, overcooking, rear-ending or spinning out in the hundred-thousand-dollar machine of your choice.

Here's the latest example of unskilled hands at work, this time on the Maserati GranTurismo. According to Gregg, it's the first known crash involving the newest Maserati. The $115,000 exotic was destroyed, he reports, after an accident in rural Ontario.

"The car sustained extensive damage to the rear, driver-side resulting in a bent axle.  The poor owner probably had less than 1,500 miles on the odometer," he blogs.

No doubt there's a special hell for drivers who perform this kind of sheetmetal bending. What's the ideal punishment for handiwork like this? Tell us in a comment below.

Maserati’s stunning GranTurismo coupe is adding a new flavor just in time for the Geneva motor show, in the form of the GranTurismo S.

At last year’s Geneva show, we brought you the first look at the GranTurismo, the effortlessly sexy replacement for the previous Coupe. Styled by Pininfarina, the four-seater slotted into the Italian brandscape between the GranSport coupe and the flagship Quattroporte sedan.

The standard GranTurismo sported a 4.2-liter V-8 delivering 405 hp, mated to automatic gearbox and equipped with an adaptive control system that adjusts the gear-shifting mode to the driving style and the road conditions. In the GranTurismo S, more power is the first order of the day. Maserati says the bored-out 4.7-liter V-8 now makes 440 horsepower. The power’s shifted out through an electrically actuated gearbox.

Also in the S: a set of high-performance Brembo brakes newly developed for the Quattroporte Sport S, with six-piston calipers for big performance; some minor body tweaks on the exterior; and a new interior with Poltrona Frau leather and Alcantara, along with new seat designs.

Maserati's tradition of GTs dates back to 1947 when, at the same Swiss exhibition, bosses unveiled their first Gran Turismo, the A6. It was designed by Pinin Farina himself, and only 58 were ever built.

Gran Turismo - Not the Cardigans, but Maserati

This is all a bit too esoteric for early morning, but hey - remember the Cardigans? That catchy Lovefool song? The follow-up was a darker, less catchy, heavily art-directed brown disc called Gran Turismo that sported a couple of singles we like, including Erase/Rewind. You should catch it. VH1 even has the Cardigans on its top 100 one-hit wonders, even though they got it wrong, since Erase/Rewind actually charted, along with My Favorite Game.

The point being that Gran Turismo is also the name of the new Maserati coupe concept coming to Geneva. Rumors had it pegged as the next Mistral, but apparently, rumors don't understand enough Italian to translate properly.

Along with the revised six-speed Quattroporte, the new Gran Turismo should be in U.S. showrooms by early next year. Or whenever Maserati gets around to it. With all the turmoil at home - first they're Ferrari juniors, now they're Fiat seniors - we just take it one day at a time.
