All is
nicht so gut at
BMW this afternoon, where some 200,000 vehicles are being recalled for airbags that might not deploy in an accident.
The Associated Press reports the recall affects the 2004-2006
BMW X3 (the current model's shown here), as well as the same years of the 5 Series and the
2006 BMW 3 Series. In those vehicles, the front passenger airbag may not go off as planned, if the detector built into the front passenger seat cracks and does not properly signal the airbag into action.
BMW says no injuries nor any accidents have been attributed to the issue. A formal safety recall means the problem will be fixed free of charge for affected owners.

Pay attention,
Toyota drivers: a safety recall has been launched involving approximately 539,000
Corolla and Matrix vehicles in America.
The recall applies to ’03 and ’04
Corolla and Matrix models with power windows (manual window model owners are safe).
Toyota says the driver and front passenger door glass bolts have been coming loose and coming off.
Notifications will be sent to owners in late April, and all repairs will be done at no cost to the owner.

Chrysler has announced a recall of its
Sebring and
Dodge Avenger sedans.
The recall affects 212,347 cars outfitted with tire pressure monitors. All are 2007 and 2008 models, the Associated Press reports.
The recall, posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on its Web site, says that the vehicles involved could have faulty electrical connectors in the tire-pressure system. Corrosion could lead to a short circuit, which in turn could cause battery problems, difficulty in starting the engine, and stalling.
Chrysler says they've received nine reports of stalling, but none of accidents or injuries.
Most of the recalled vehicles were sold in the U.S. Starting in mid-April,
Chrysler will re-seal the monitors or replace them free of charge.

Passat owners, take notice: VW is recalling the mid-size model for potential problems with 1999-2005 versions.
The recall of gasoline-powered Passats is voluntary, the German automaker says. Affected Passats with an automatic transmission may have an underbody heat shield, which could become damaged. When damaged, if the shield were to come in contact with the vehicle exhaust system, there could be a risk of fire or damage. During the inspection, if your car's shield is damaged, VW will install a new one.
Also, some Passats with 1.8-liter turbo engines have a fuel line that requires inspection and possibly a replacement line. Some vehicles that operate with a 4Motion all-wheel drive will also be inspected for damage to a fuel tank ventilation valve.
While no accidents or injuries have been recorded from these problems, there are 410,000 potentially flawed vehicles in the United States alone. Owner notification is scheduled to begin by May 30, 2008.
