If you need a full-size truck--there are still a few of you out there, I'm sure--Ford's latest deal could cut through the gas-prices haze.Ford's offering a pricing deal on big F-Series trucks reminiscent of the deals it offered in the post-9/11 months. Through the end of this month, the automaker is giving everyone the pricing that it gives to employees on its F-Series trucks.
The Harley edition F-Series and commercial-cab models aren't included in the deal, but some cash rebates are included.
Last month, Ford's F-Series lost its 24-year hold on the best-selling vehicle title to the Honda Civic. F-Series trucks still lead the yearlong sales race, but in May, the trucks finished behind the Honda Civic, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and Toyota Corolla to finish fifth among all vehicles sold. In May, F-Series sales dropped 31 percent.
The F-Series is in its last model year before an extensively revised 2009 Ford F-150 hits the market later in 2008.

June 5th, 2008 - 12:43 pmFord would do much better if, instead of giving away the trucks that nobody wants,
if they closed down four of the pants that make them, as GM did.
Sell your bloated inventory and then JUST STOP MAKING THE effing POS!
I am amazed they do not see the handwriting on the wall!
CIVIC 53,300 sales vs F-150 barely 42,000, in May 08, and worse to come!

June 5th, 2008 - 1:16 pmthey never see the writing on the wall, why should they when they know that the government and US consumer will keep bailing them out. There is no incentive for them to make quality products that people want. American consumers that buy them are as intelligent at the people who run these companies. Lets stop the bailouts and then see the type of products that come out of Detroit.

June 5th, 2008 - 1:36 pmHahaha!! “barely 42,000″ units in one month. Yeah, any vehicle that sells that poorly should be junked…

June 5th, 2008 - 2:01 pmAh yes…nothing like reading the well-thought out responses of arrogant automotive elite who think everyone who’s intelligent and cultured drive either the BMW 7-series or a Prius.
Guys (and I use the term loosely)…it’s ok to not like large cars and trucks, but must you fire tired, over-used, passe insults and characterizations to express your displeasure?
Have a nice day…

June 5th, 2008 - 4:25 pm42,000 a month is still 500,000 annual. There are many vehicles, including all those hybrids, that would love to sell that well.

June 8th, 2008 - 11:19 amIf I were Ford I would start cutting luxury items out of the base trucks because I see them returning to being work trucks. Merge the platform of the F-150 with the F250 and above. Really the F150 has grown so much it shouldn’t be called a half ton anymore. They should also get to work on a compact pickup below the now midsized Ranger for businesses that need a light duty truck. Make a pickup bed an option on the Transit light van. (That thing they’re bringing over from Europe as a delivery van)

June 9th, 2008 - 11:40 amEd — Your comments are total garbage. I throw up in my mouth a little bit every time I read your thoughtless posts. The F-Series is still the gold standard for work trucks. The down turn is probably a combination of consumers reacting to gas prices and consumers delaying their purchase of a new full-size truck until the new model comes out.
