South Florida is awful when it comes to inconsiderate and disrespectful drivers. Period. It just is! Here are some of my pet peeves:
Why on earth do people litter? Can't they just keep the trash in their car until they get to their destination?
Why do people refuse to make traffic lines, especially when it comes to a freeway/expressway exit? Why do they have to cut in front of others, or me?
Why is it people drive with their handicapped long and wide card hanging from the mirror? It obstructs visibility and clearly states that it should be removed when driving.
Why do they throw out burning cigarettes when there could be fire danger, especially during the summer drought?
Why is it that the first 3 seconds of the RED LIGHT no longer means STOP? It means go faster through it or “Don’t worry, the on-coming traffic will be looking out for your stupidity!”
And, last but not least, why don't people pull over and/or stop when an ambulance or police car approaches? What if it was their family or friends inside the ambulance, or the police cruiser rushing to save a family member in trouble?
Can someone shed some light, please? For the life of me, I can’t begin to understand why people do the things they do while driving or operating a motor vehicle. Sometimes I look at them and wonder if I should move to Madagascar or Tierra del Fuego, or if they should get traffic summons requiring their attending a 30 day traffic school or move to Lingkungan Hidup Indonesia and deal with one of the worst traffic in the world, without regard to human civility. I think everything you've mentioned just represents the increasingly callous nature of our society. Why don't people pull over for ambulances? Because they don't care about the people in the ambulances, they're too self absorbed. We live in an increasingly "me" oriented society where its all about me, myself and I. Why don't people use turn signals? Because its too bothersome and other people should be looking out for them! Why don't people stop at red lights? Because its too much work to do that and they're too busy getting to work/going home/picking up the kids/dropping off the kids/picking up dinner etc so running the red light saves them a fraction of a second, who cares? Everyone should be looking out for them, right?
We're a lazy, self-absorbed society.
