2009 Jaguar XF – Is It the “HM?”

2009 Jaguar XF – Is It the “HM?”

When we saw the latest photos of the Jaguar XF this morning, a colleague reminded us that this could be the last new Jaguar interior we see for a while. Even our spy photographers refer to the XF as the Hail Mary for Jaguar – a last chance before Ford loses its final bits of patience for a turnaround at its English patient.

What we’ve seen of the XF so far looks great, frankly. The wedgy shape ditches the old S-Type’s frumpy, referential style and tosses the XF squarely against the latest Audis, BMWs and Lexuses. Inside, these latest spy shots show a more serious and performance-oriented cabin.

But will it be enough? Even in a car market flush with buyers and low interest rates, Jaguar had tough times. In fact, in the U.S., sales performance has been dismal, particularly for the new XJ.

The XF is due late in 2008. Tell us what you think – will the XF really be Jaguar’s Hail Mary? Or is it too little, too late?

I met Sir William Lyons, I cant say he was a friend of mine but I can say he would be thrilled by the bold and distinctive exterior design of the X-F.Sir William was a man who was prepared to lead and not follow and the new X_F does just thatYes Audi BMW Mercedes make good cars but they are too common place particularly here in South California.
Exclusivity is essential in the premium market and Jaguar and its stable mate Range Rover should focus on the top end of the premium market. That means no Xtype in future.Nor a cross over.

Another part of the equation is the marketing of the brand. Have you seen the commericals? A series of lights, swirling around, in and out of focus, with some young, bored looking models just sitting there. Is this the way this storied marque should be presented? We have some history here, or as they say DNA for the cars. Use it, capitalize on it, play off of that. Sometimes stereotyping can be a good thing. Ford, how about some passion for the cars and what they have meant to car enthusiasts around the world?

I have been involved with jaguar for the last 15 years and I believe that this new "concept" will be one great autumobile but if Ford continues to do a poor marketing job it will produce a failure. Remember this new car is a step away from it's tradition and will probably drive away the current group of jag"s established customer base . No matter what this is a big gamble from a group that has not had the best of fortune of late when gambling.---GOOD LUCK!--TIME WILL TELL

Great exterior, best looking in the class. Interior dash looks very ordinary compared to the outside.

Lincoln, that's where that interior needs to be, not in a Jaguar.

The great experiment that GM and Ford partook in that involved swallowing small independent European carmakers, pumping some money, tech and expertise into them and waiting for spectacular growth has produced lackluster results, watered down products and mediocre sales/profits.

These companies need to be given greater freedom and independence in developing their products, core values and a strong customer base. Me too design, cautious product strategies and a lack of true innovation will mean that these firms which have been the true bases for progress (safety belts, turbo chargers, hydro-pneumatic suspension, disc brakes, crumple zones etc) in the car industry will simply die away.

Hi, I think the exterior looks awesome and if you look close enough it's not all square and edgy, there are a few curves in there that take the car back to it's heritage. As for the interior, the photo shown here on the face of it looks boring however, take a close look, it looks very similar to that of the new XK which is a winner in my opinion. The picture they have here shows much more a traditional colour and trim scene which will still appeal to many buyers. With a little imagination you can see contempory materials such as aluminium working very well in there. Just about see the padel change on the steering wheel too, very exciting, can't wait! There are millions of people in every corner of the world who will recognize this car as a Jaguar, not because it looks like the previous model, but because it represents the true spirit of a Jaguar - beautiful individualistic styling with a deep rooted sporting hertitage. This is a 'sports sedan' in every sense of the term and it took a long time in the making. It's been over forty years since the world bowed down to the awesome mk2 sports sedan. The new XF is what a 21st centuary Jaguar should look like. If parent compant Ford gets the marketing right, this car may just be the ticket Jaguar so desperately needs. Not only to pull the company out of the red, but to show the world that the spirit of Jaguar is far from dead. It's simply gorgeous!

I think that the new xf will be a hit. The car just seems to have a line that goes from the front to the end, much like the lines of the current s type, but less curvy. I think that with the new xk set the stage for future jags, and have you seen the xk on the road...its just stunning, much better than say a sl550. Many posts say that the xf loses the classic jag lines and that older customers will not like it. I beg to differ....i showed this car to my dad, who has had an xj6 and now drives a vanden plas xj8, and he thought it was really cool!!...and would definetely consider buying one! The one thing I feel that would have really made the interior pop would have been the pop out nav screen like in the concept...check it out on the jaguar website...

I think I'm one of the few who love the s-type, especially the s-type "R" package. Classic, classic, classic!!! I always liked Jaguar for being different from the rest - instead of trying to following the typical wedge-shaped caca we see from bmw, lexus, mb, etc, jaguar has always been the more refined gentleman's choice. but alas, the folks over at Ford need to turn a profit (because their own cars just cant make the grade) and therefore jaguar had to change and join the ranks of the standard 4-door sports sedan market...no more uniqueness. anyways, i was beginning to accept the new design, but i was mostly basing that opinion on the concept car, which has the more innovative headlight package and overall futuristic look. the toned down version is too "Lincoln/Ford" for my taste.
