Porsche Plans Hybrid #2
Porsche Plans Hybrid #2Porsche’s confirmed that the Panamera will be offered in a hybrid flavor when it finally bows in 2009.
The hybrid version will share its gas-electric running gear with the Cayenne Hybrid, which was introduced at the 2007 Los Angeles auto show. Porsche promises a 30-percent boost in fuel economy with the hybrid technology. To achieve better weight balance, the Panamera Hybrid will stow its battery under the cargo floor, and the clutch and electric motor will live between the engine and transmission. And to keep efficiency high, the hybrid will be able to run in gas-only, electric-only, or in combined gas-electric mode.
Porsche's still planning a Geneva motor show debut for the Panamera. Stick with us through our Detroit show coverage and as we look ahead to Switzerland and all it entails. Fact check: "Introduced initially with traditional drivetrains, the hybrid version of the Panamera will be offered at a later date." I wouldn't expect the hybrid before 2010.
