Scion Coupe Concept Confirmed for New York Show
Scion Coupe Concept Confirmed for New York ShowThe new Scion will be called the Hako (which might mean box, but pardon us for not reading and writing kanji). In a press release, Toyota's newest brand says that the "sporty interpretation of the box concept" was penned by its Tokyo design division.
The new coupe concept comes as Scion is looking to boost flat sales. The latest generation of Scion xB and Scion xD models isn't sparking the same interest as the initial wunderboxes, so the Hako--which will likely foretell the replacement for the tC coupe--could be an important launch for the brand.
While we're still on the ground at the Geneva motor show, it wouldn't hurt to take a look ahead to the New York show, where we'll see a Kia concept, the new Nissan Maxima and Infiniti FX, a concept or two from General Motors, and more. Scion's Hako takes to the stage Wednesday, March 19 at 3:15 p.m.--see you there, and if not, you can stream the press conference at the Scion Web site. They took the original xA and xB, made them uglier and heavier with poorer fuel economy, and expected people to just buy them because they were made by Toyota of Japan. I love my little xA, even though it has the little 1.5L sewing machine motor in it. It's fun, it's cute, and it gets 35 MPG no matter how much I toss it around. They kinda forgot that with the xD.

I am seriously considering buying an xB. I like the relaxed feel of the 2.4 Litre engine here in the mountain areas. The old xB was great at buzzing around town but it was a pain in the donky when you hit the road to one of the many ski, camping, snowboarding or picnic areas that are all in a 30 minute radius of my home. I drove a new xB to park city and never had to take it out of 5th gear. The old one had the engine screaming in 3rd gear just to keep up with the traffic going up I-80.
The xD feels like last years xB but with more zip from the engine.
The old xA was like a Yaris with more upright bodywork, and a lot more standard equipment.

Drove the new XB, nice. It could do with a little better gas mileage though. Wanted a sun roof was told only available on a one color special model. Give me a brake. Dealer seemed to have a attitude problem (like the VW dealers used to be) didn't seem to interested in making a sell so maybe we will have to wait until KIA comes along with theirs....
