Due for a Paris auto show launch this October, the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze is here now--at least in visual form.

These are the first photos of the Cruze, which GM is calling a "four-door coupe," which should have Benz and VW patent lawyers counting billable hours. The Cruze has a dramatic new profile, compared to the Cobalt it will replace, with a much airier greenhouse and a more interesting, angular front end. It's all part of a new global design language for the Chevrolet brand, GM adds. Inside, the Cruze uses a twin-cockpit theme and higher-grade materials--but we'll have to wait and see at Paris to confirm.

In Europe, engines will include a 112-horsepower, 1.6-liter four and a 140-hp 1.8-liter four, as well as a 150-hp turbodiesel 2.0-liter four. Five-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmissions will be the norm.

Sales start over there in March 2009; the U.S. Cruze is due as a 2011 model as Chevrolet sees its Cobalt getting a second wind in sales.

I figured it would be ugly. But damn, that makes the rest of Chevy's hideous lineup look good.

They'll introduce that car just as GM goes bankrupt.

Those headlights just need to be cleaned up (lop off the "horns") and it will look all right. But leave it to the bean counters to decide it's better to try to squeeze every last dime out of the Cobalt. What would Malibu sales be like if they extended that model another 2 years?

This car will bring foreign car buyers into gm dealers.

The "Bangle Butt" doesn't look good on ANY car. Never has, and never will.

Looks fantastic to me. If it does indeed returns numbers of up 45 mpg as reported, this thing is going to be a hot seller. I can't wait for it. Hop over the pond already and get in the states!

VERY NICE - EXCEPT FOR THE YELLOW BOWTIE.

The Cruze is not what I would consider a beautiful car like the the larger Malibu or the same size Honda Civic or Mazda 3. I agree with Tom L that the headlights need to lose the horns. I also do not like the front end arch line minmicking the front wheel cutout and the creaseline going upwards from the front door to the rear fender. Also, why do they need the add the little, ugly, cheap looking black triangle piece behind the rear door. The Cruze looks like the Chrysler Sebring sedan. The designer appears to be working too hard, with the end result of a over-styled car. There is a thing called elegant simplicity.

I think they did a decent job. The back, to me, is quite attractive. The front sort of average...
If it's roomy inside and gets 40+ highway, I think it could be a winner.
