I am not surprised by this as VW is very popular in Europe. Also, VW and Audi have the very best interior design for their price point. VW and Audi have very tasteful exteriors too. A VW Jetta's interior put shame on the Ford Focus and Fusion. Whereas, Ford cars in the US have very ugly designs on the whole. Witness the entire Mercury line with its over-styled and unbalanced add-ons just to look slightly different from Fords. It is very unbelievable how mismanaged Ford is in the US compared to the entire Ford car, SUV, and passenger van lines in the UK.

I am not surprised either. Despite its dismal reliability in its Mex-built US models, VW offers soem amazingly fuel efficient and real performing Golfs and other cars in Europe. The sixth gen Golf with 122 HP from a 1.2 lt wengine (!!!) and esp. the TDI (smallest of two diesels) makes an amazing 4.5 lt/100 km combined! (that's approx. 1.2 gallons/60 miles!)
