The first shots of the mildly updated 2009 Mazda MX-5 have leaked on to the Web.

The changes are limited to a resculpted front end, where the themes of the Mazda 6 and the RX-8 have made their way onto the petite roadster. There's a deeper air intake up front, flanked by reshaped headlamps and foglamps.

If any more changes are confirmed by Mazda's U.S. team, we'll let  you know--and we'll be back with more pics when they're available.

UPDATE: We've swapped out the pre-embargo pic for this nice clean one. Salut!

Much better looking from the front. I am not a fan of the current facia and think this will make the car appear a bit more balanced and aggresive.

NICE FACELIFT!!! Doesn't take away from the from the model it replaces, only enhaces it. Great!

It is sad that the Miata gets futher and futher away from its orginial look of smooth lines with each redesign. The squared off look no longer sets it a part from all the other two seaters in a now crowed field.

I'm trying to decide whether to purchase an '09 or wait until the "big re-design "takes place in '10 ...Help ! Former '08 owner 'till and elderly gentleman drove us into a ditch with a totalled car.
