I heard on TV the other day that they rolled out the concept car for a viewing by one of the auto magazines. First it wouldn't start, then it started and went only 15 mph tops, then it died, then they cancelled the interview.
Scary for a company that should be able to throw together a concept car with one hand tied behind their back and blindfolded.
Makes you think GM is not really serious about this "green" stuff - just jumping on the bandwagon with buzzwords. What are those guys doing?

I don't understand why people are so down on GM. This is a company that provides health insurance for 1,100,000 retired Americans and their families, not to mention 100,000 jobs with decent pay and great benefits. Everyone rants about the lack of availability of health insurance. Well if you all keep on buying ugly imports, you will find over a million more people without insurance. Also I can't imagine who is going to pay for the pensions of all those workers if GM goes down. The government is supposed to pick up the tab by law, but how can they in the current situation. STOP BUYING IMPORTS PEOPLE! WAKE UP!

I have been seeing a lot of negative commentary on the Chevy Volt on the internet. GM expects to invest about $1 billion in developing this vehicle. Too bad that arm-chair entrepreneurs think they know more about how to run a business. Truth is, our government and our greedy consumers have been killing this American industry. We need to raise tariffs on imports and stop bashing our American auto industry. Years ago GM employed 450,000 workers. Now it's more like 80,000 to 100,000.

Gina, let me get this straight. You want the consumers to buy that scrap iron that GM calls "cars" and then you want us (the consumers/taxpayers) to pick up the tab for a poorly run business that makes products that most of the people don't want. You want the taxpayers to pick up the tab for health insurance and pensions for the autoworkers?? Isn't that concept called welfare? The automobile industry provides good paying jobs and great benefits to it's employees... for what? Producing a crappy product that nobody wants.
I'll keep buying toyota, honda, hyandai, bmw, and mercedes. At least those are vehicles that I know I don't have to replace every three years because they won't run anymore. And, I'll also have a vehicle that hasn't lost 70-80 percent of it's value in three years the way that an automobile manufactured in detroit does. The big 3 in detroit make me sick! Their CEO's fly to DC in their private jets asking for a handout - NO WAY!!!! Just let the Detroit automakers go into bankruptcy without the help of the taxpayer... and the sooner the better!

Well, the "volt" certainly delivered a shock with its simply awful styling. If GM thinks I'm going to fork out more than $45K for this thing, they'd better declare bankruptsy right now. I can't think of a worse Chevy disaster than the rear-engined Corvair - it made "Time" magazine's 50 Worst Cars of All Times list - but this looks like it will be even worse than that. Make a note now: this monster will never hit the showrooms because GM will fold before that.

How could they take an exciting looking concept car like the Volt and turn it into cottage cheeze? The thing looks like a Chevy cobalt! I'm so disappointed.

Watch "Who Killed the Electric Car"...You will lose all of your hope\interest in thinking that GM will ever release anything the public wants and\or a vehicle that doesn't rely on "Big Oil". Don't bailout GM or buy into their lies.

    YUCK

I am in agreement with most others when I say I was very interested in the concept version and was thinking of saving up for one, now it is just as ugly as the others I have refused to purchase. I originally looked like a "sports" car too bad.

    Where is the VOLT?

I wanted the concept version of this car, but they changed it and now it no longer holds my interest. I own 3 GM vehicles and 92' camaro, 99' Silverado and a 71' Oldsmobile Cutlass, but I swore off GM when they killed off Oldsmobile. It was a bad move. I wont buy any foreign vehicles, call it American pride, but I look at Dodge now. They seem to keep with the concept vehicles they introduce. Have you seen a Challenger yet, awesome looks and quite close to the original concept.
