2009 Honda Insight to Debut at Detroit Auto Show
2009 Honda Insight to Debut at Detroit Auto ShowHonda has an aggressive sales goal of 200,000 Insights annually, with 100,000 in the U.S. alone. The vehicle will be a gas/electric hybrid similar in concept to the Toyota Prius, and it will use a driver-coaching system called EcoAssist to help extract max economy. Thus far, Honda has relied on a mild-hybrid setup, one that cannot operate on electric power alone. The Insight name was first applied to a CRX-like three-door hatchback, which was America's first commercially produced gas-electric hybrid vehicle.
We will be driving the 2009 Honda Insight later this week, and we're curious to see how it stacks up to the Toyota Prius in terms of drivability, comfort, and efficiency. Stay tuned for the full report.--Colin Mathews

The vehicle shown in January at Detroit's Cobo Hall will be the production version. Honda has an aggressive sales goal of 200,000 Insights annually, with 100,000 in the U.S. alone. Not true at all. I like Mercedeses too. In fact, I like the styling of the CURRENT Gen mercs to that of the CURRENT 3 and 5 BMWs. BUT mine is a 1998 CLASSIC and very elegant styling, that was replaced by the ATROCIOUS 7 that this idiot Chris Bangle designed (or "Bangled")
Hondas and BMWs have BOTH RICH Motorcycle traditions that Mercs and TOyotas do not have, and there is little you can do about it.
Still, I do recommend Toyotas (and, if they want something more upscale) Mercs and LExuses to my friends, even if I would not necessarily get one for myself.
There are MANY other cars I have considered (always USED and from their OWNERS, never from used car salesmen) such as Porsche 911 Turbos (a more practical choice than the next) and even "entry level" Ferraris 355 and later.
I even appreciate the value and good styling of the Pontiac G8. It figures it was NOT made by the Detroit beancounters but in AUSTRALIA... LOL.

i plan to put downpayment on one shortly. the one question i have is how can it get better mpg than the prius when it never runs all electric??? just a question. i think that light weight will have a lot to do with it but i doubt that it will get close to 60 mpg at best or even 50 mpg . i hope im wrong but im still going to get one.
