The 2010 Jaguar XJ has been spotted testing in the U.K., revealing modern styling radically different than the familiar XJs of the last few decades.
Seemingly emboldened by the success of the XF, the new 2010 Jaguar XJ sports a remarkably sleek silhouette, with a sloping backlight that almost suggests a fastback shape. Imagining some of the XF's meaty design cues beneath all of the this XJ's camouflage, applied to the smooth, elongated shape we see here should make for a very compelling design that should hold its own against its top in the luxury class.
Jaguar is reportedly using an updated version of the current XJ's aluminum platform--a recipe applied with great success on the XF, which married old and new platform bits to make a thoroughly satisfying car. The 2010 Jaguar XJ is powered by a new 5.0-liter V8 engine with direct injection, which will produce between 400 and 500 hp, depending on its method of aspiration.
The radically new XJ is expected to reach the market in early 2010, with a public debut in late 2009, perhaps at the Frankfurt Motor Show.--KGP Photography
