The new baby Roller may shrink in the shadow of the gargantuan Phantom, but it gets more power according to Rolls-Royce. Today they released more details of the RR4 project that was named 200EX in concept guise at its Geneva Motor Show debut.
In addition to spreading the rumor about coupe and convertible iterations, we'd previously reported 6.0-liters of V-12 based on current twin-turbo BMW V-8 architecture, but today Rolls-Royce tells us the new turbo V-12 engine will displace 6.6-liters and churn out over 500 hp (to the Phantom's 453). The displacement makes perfect sense, as doing the math reveals that each one of the cylinders in this new 12 will measure the same displacement (0.55 liters) as those in the V-8 that lives under the hoods of many BMW products like the new 7-Series.
Using BMW's quick-spooling turbo setup (we'd put our money on one turbo per cylinder bank), low end torque should be prodigious as well. Transmitting all that thrust to the rear wheels will be a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, putting Rolls-Royce even with Lexus in the auto-trans gear count wars.
If you want to see the 200EX in person, we've posted tour dates and locations below:
- New York - 3/23 through 3/25
- Singapore - 4/3 and 4/4
- Miami - 5/19 and 5/20
- Los Angeles - 5/26 through 5/28
- London - 6/9 through 6/11
- Cannes - 7/2 through 7/4
