The most important factor to look for in these programs is how long the vehicle buyer is protected against losing his/her job. Under the Ford program the buyer has to lose his/her job before January 1, 2010. That means that the later an individual waits to purchase a Ford vehicle the less time he/she has as a coverage period. Under the GM program, vehicle buyer is protected for 21 months after a 90 day exclusionary period to lose his/her job and still receive payments. So if a vehicle is purchased today, under the Ford program there is only 7 months and 8 days in which the purchaser could lose his/her job, but the GM purchaser is covered until April 22, 2011! What's the better deal?
