Having won the hearts and minds of car lovers through a starring lead in the blockbuster movie Transformers as well as generally favorable reviews, the Camaro coupe is well on its way towards becoming a modern classic.
Before General Motors got into major financial strife it released a number of concepts for the Camaro, one of them being a proposed ragtop model. Enthusiast websites have been umming and ahhing about the production possibilities this car but we finally have confirmation from the General that it will hit our streets by March of 2011 – two years after the launch of the coupe.
Industry publication Automotive News had a chat to GM’s Terry Rhadigan, who said "The convertible was never canceled. It was retimed. It will be the first quarter of 2011 for the start of production.”
Usually carmakers release a convertible model one year after the coupe version but financial troubles have forced many to push their schedules back.
Radhigan also confirmed that both V6 and V8 options will be available on the drop-top Camaro.
Our recent review of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro coupe indicated that the car has lived up to the hype, which is pretty rare in the automotive world. Here’s hoping GM produces another high quality car in the Camaro convertible.

looking forward to it. just hoping it doesn't weigh 4500 lbs!

What is wrong with these people? 10% of the american people are out of work. we just gave general motors billions of dollars of our money to be used to make their CEO's even richer and now we need a hot rod car that cost more than most ameican's make in a year. I drive a a 1994 GEO. It has air, tape deck, and i get forty-five miles to a gallon. I paid three hundred dollars for it ten years ago. Please, GM, if you can make a car in 1994 that gets forty-five miles to a gallon and will cruise at seventy-miles an hour all day long. Why, in Gods name, cam't you make a car like that today!
