BMW's big product year continues with the 2011 BMW X1 sport-utility vehicle, shown here for the first time completely undisguised and in full view thanks to an online leak.
The new sport-utility vehicle--or is it a crossover?--is being readied for a fall debut, most likely at the 2009 Frankfurt auto show. Official details are yet to be released but the rumor mill has already started churning out most of the specs.
The new X1 will be BMW's smallest SUV, with an overall length of about 175 inches and a wheelbase of about 104 inches. Its running gear will be based on the 1-Series compact car but its ride height is taller. The vehicle is actually expected to use a mixture of 1-Series and 3-Series parts, sort of bridging the size gap between the two--not that the gap was large to begin with.
Drivetrains for the X1 will range from small four-cylinder engines to six-cylinders. In the U.S., X1 owners will likely have a choice between either the 230-horsepower, 3.0-liter in-line six or a 204-horsepower diesel four-cylinder with twin turbochargers. BMW’s X-drive all-wheel drive will be an option.
Like the 1-Series BMW sedan, coupe and convertible, the X1 won't be cheap by the time it comes to America. A base price around $30,000 is likely, as is a fully-loaded price above $40,000.

I like this car. I have to say i'm most impressed comparing the concept to the production version. How similar they look is very impressive. I wonder how much they really did change from concept to production!
In the details my favorite part is where the crease from the C-pillar 'meets' the character line across the lower half of the door. I have written more about it on my Blog
