Say what you will about Megan Fox's acting chops, the Transformers movie franchise has proven immensely successful, and it has carried General Motors' ships higher with its tide. The biggest single beneficiary of the team-up is the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro, and today GM announced the Transformers Special Edition appearance package to take further advantage of the association.
Unfortunately no sound effects or secret robotic lifeforms are included for the $995 price, but that modest fee will get you a set of black rally stripes on a Rally Yellow LT or SS Camaro, Autobot badging on the door panels and wheel caps, an embroidered Autobot center console and Transformers logos on the door sill plates and embedded in the broad black stripes themselves.
"When the first Transformers movie was setting box office records, we had countless customers asking to purchase the 'Bumblebee' Camaro," said Karen Rafferty, product marketing director at Chevrolet. "Now, they can buy one with the new Camaro Transformers Special Edition. Streets all over North America will be buzzing in no time."
While that may be a bit of a marketing-laden prediction, the Camaro has certainly seen a healthy measure of success in the short months since its retail debut. Already over 14,000 of the cars have been ordered, and despite a few nagging problems with reliability and build quality, sales appear to be staying strong.
Earlier this week, GM confirmed it had found the cause of the transmission problem that briefly delayed production of some 2010 Camaro SS models, but didn't disclose exactly what had gone wrong.

It's good to see that the new GM is looking for ways to increase profitability - like by charging $995 for this package. The stripe is normally $470, so those extra little bot badges must be made of platinum!
