Even in these green, economically troubled times, the Chevrolet Suburban has at least one fan: Mary Cheney, politico and daughter of "former" vice president Dick Cheney. A new book by Ronald Kessler claims Cheney demanded that her Secret Service detail chauffeur her around town, and she was particularly envious of the spankin' new Suburban allotted to her sister, Elizabeth. Says Cheney of the book's allegations: "These stories are simply not true, and I have nothing but the utmost respect for the men and women of the Secret Service." Okay, but what about the lust in your heart for Suburbans? [NYPost]

Why is this news?
1. Mary Cheney isn't part of the 'green' movement, so it's not hypocritical for her to prefer a Suburban.
2. She denies the primadonna claims, so you have a 'he said, she said' situation.
3. How is this newsworthy information related to the auto industry, or cars in general? This sort of gossip story should be found in People magazine, not TCC.
gslippy: From time to time, we try to lighten things up around here. Perhaps you should join us. You know, in lightening up.

And Pelosi flies on her own 747, what costs more? All politicians are equally culpable of waste.

Not John Edwards. Apparently he doesn't let a drop go to waste.

Clearly she has many many quarks. One of them is liking suburbans I can think of a few worse things.
@Marty: Wow. You wanna throw in a "spent" pun, just to drive it home? I thought this was a family website (and not the Spears family, either). Hmph.

Who cares? Lighten up or not-who gives a tinker's damn what Mary Cheney is doing, or driving or even thinking? Also, what's a quark?

Women who drive giant SUVs like the Suburban tend to be insecure and in unhappy marriages
