•    What is it? The latest generation of Hyundai’s popular compact SUV
•    The basics: Front and all-wheel-drive plus four-cylinder or V6 powertrains
•    On sale: Next year, with a public showing and more details at the Frankfurt Auto Show
•    Price: Less than $20,000 (est.)

Hyundai only updated its Tucson compact SUV last year with a new four-cylinder engine but the next-generation model is now just about a week away from making its world debut, although it has already been revealed in its domestic market of South Korea and in these new high-res photographs. Labeled the iX35 in other markets, the new compact SUV moves to a more crossover-styled body and is due later this year in the U.S.

The latest addition to Hyundai’s lineup has a much more premium look than its predecessor and also comes with a few new features. Front and all-wheel-drive versions will be offered in the U.S. Tucson, with both four-cylinder and six-cylinder engine options on the table.

New features for the South Korean model include stability control, brake assist, a panoramic sunroof, and a reversing camera. North American specifications will be announced at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this year.

Development for the 2010 Tucson has taken more than 36 months and cost approximately $225 million. The Tucson has remained one of the most popular Hyundai models with more than one million units sold worldwide since its launch in 2004.

That drooping rear roof line which was first seen on the Matrix (I think) is now the standard, it appears. Must be good for the aerodynamics.

Will the Navigation package be available here in the US? It shows availability for the Korean market. Should definitely be available to your biggest market!!! Our next vehicle will have a NAV system, hope it will be yours.
