As the smallest and least expensive model in Hyundai's U.S. lineup, the Accent comes as a three-door hatchback or four-door sedan, and for 2010 is offered with a new ultra-efficient “Blue” model.
The Accent Blue is the latest model in Hyundai’s grouping of specially designed eco-friendly models that offer improved fuel economy and lower emissions than their standard equivalents. In fact, the Accent's fuel efficiency is improved by up to 9%, reaching as high as 36 mpg on the highway--better than the Honda Fit and Nissan Versa--and a combined fuel economy of 31 mpg.
Pricing for the new 2010 Hyundai Accent range starts at $9,970 for the Blue three-door hatchback equipped with a five-speed manual and 1.6-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine. The most expensive model is the SE three-door with a four-speed automatic and $16,995 pricetag. Note, these prices do not contain a freight charge of $720.
All 2010 Accents receive lower friction engine components, aerodynamic improvements, lower-rolling-resistance silica tires, a "smart" alternator management system and other enhancements all aimed at reducing fuel consumption. The Accent Blue receives the same treatment plus revised transmission gear ratios and lowered ride height to achieve even greater fuel efficiency.
To help Accent drivers get the most out of their cars Hyundai has added an economy indicator. The "eco indicator" on automatic transmission models is a green ECO light to indicate when the driver is achieving good fuel economy. Manual transmission models have an EcoShift indicator to inform drivers of the optimal time to shift.
Also new for 2010 is the addition of iPod/USB ports on all audio-equipped models, as well as blue backlit gauges on all models.

The Golf TDI will eat this car's lunch. The Golf TDI will come on board with 30 mpg city and 40 mpg on the highway from a auto manual transmission for an average mpg of 35. Of course the Golf's materials, features, and driving dynamics will be superior for the $17 K. If that doesn't do the trick, the VW Polo will soon be arriving with even better fuel economy numbers that the Golf TDI and cheaper.

You're living in the past. The Golf will not be superior, everyone knows that Hyundai's reliability is above VW now. The features and materials on the SE are excellent, as is the fit and finish. It has been highly praised for it's handling. I doubt you have been inside a newer Accent, or maybe just the base version. WebRides TV blog said this: "What the car lacks in gusto, it more than makes up for in stick. The suspension handles the car’s 2,400 lbs without breaking a sweat. With the wheels pushed far to each corner, you can whip this little hatch around any organization of cones or apexes quick enough to slap a grin on your face in a hurry. The astounding amount of available grip allows you to keep up serious momentum, resulting in faster lap times than the 110 ponies would have you believe. Turn in is bright and the set up is wonderfully forgiving. If you’re looking to lay down the basics of car control for someone, the Accent SE is a smart choice.

And there's this about quality from Automobile.com
"I never thought that I would be saying this, but the Accent really does feel like a quality machine, and its something the competition probably wasn't expecting. Poke your nose in that engine bay, and you'll find that there's weather-stripping all around to keep dust and dirt out, a jacket to insulate the battery so that it stays warm in the winter, and no wiring left exposed to the elements. Even the seams where metal meets metal around the bay are properly joined, a sign of true quality. You cant find these things in a Yaris, Im told, and sure enough, under the nose of a Yaris, these things werent there."
