You're well aware that Toyota is recalling the 2004-2009 Prius--among a list of vehicles--for an issue with floor mats. Here at High Gear Media, we have at least two vehicles affected by the recall, both 2004 Toyota Prius hatchbacks, both even the same shade of blue.

One of them's mine, and in the nearly six years we've owned our Prius, it's been relatively fault-free. Early on, we replaced the navigation screen under warranty. Two accidents cost about $3500 each, though they were parking-lot scrapes--the price of very light wheel spindles, suspension A-arms and lots front-end plastic.

As we prepare to drive the 2010 Ford Taurus today (our first road test review is coming next week), it's important to have a frame of reference. A good comparison for the all-new 2010 Ford Taurus is the outgoing model. formerly known as the Five Hundred. The outgoing Taurus hasn't been a big sales success...

I hate to admit that until last week, I had never driven a Toyota FJ Cruiser. The very capable off-roader with the funky look was introduced way back in 2006 as a 2007 model ... so I'm way behind the curve on this one.

Perhaps the time gives me some added distance to judge this ready-for-anything SUV as I am coming to it uncontaminated by any PR hype. Plus, I approach the big blue 2009 Toyota FJ Cruiser as someone who would never, every buy one of these things. I don't go off-roading, and I don't want to look like I do when I'm not. End of story.
