Audi is in the midst of a transformation--according to company executives, it's the right moment in history for the brand to push through brand prejudices in the U.S. and to find a place alongside Lexus, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

Change has already come to Audi for the 2010 model year: this week, Audi took High Gear Media for first drives in the R8 V-10 supercar, the S5 Cabriolet and the S4 sport sedan. The real action starts next year, however, as Audi unveils a replacement for its large A8 luxury sedan, shows the production version of its A7 four-door coupe, and polishes off development on a new A6 range.

First comes the Audi A8. Speculation...

Oh to be Jason Statham, the bad-boy British star featured in Audi's upcoming Super Bowl '09 commercial. Not since Yul Brenner has bald been so sexy.

Statham is the star in Audi's 60-second Super Bowl advertising extravaganza, "Chase" (60 seconds long! Someone has some cash reserves laying around). Audi's preview of the spot (above) features a delicious collection of iconic autos from the 60s, 70s, and 80s engaged in all sorts of hoonery.

Crooks and thieves pursue as Statham deftly escapes danger. Watch as a classic BMW M5 launches through an L.A. billboard, a classic 70s Mercedes sedan cruises through a few scenes, a Smokey and The Bandit ...

The Big Game's still more than a week away, but Audi's dribbling out info on its new Super Bowl ad, which airs during the slugfest from Tampa Bay, pitting the Pittsburgh Steelers against the formerly hapless Arizona Cardinals.

The new Audi ad features the brand's new supercharged A6 sedan -- while also featuring the lovely and talented Jason Statham, star of the "Transporter" movies. In the ad, Statham will magically happen upon an Audi when searching for the perfect getaway car.

Left to speculation--how many cars will get blown up or destroyed in the process, and how much airtime will go to former swimmer Statham's bare chest.
