Joyride In Porsche Boxster Ends With 70-Foot Plunge

Joyride In Porsche Boxster Ends With 70-Foot Plunge

Speaking of advertising campaigns, Porsche might have found fodder for a new one, if it's looking to promote the safety its vehicles. In Los Angeles, a 15-year-old kid swiped his father's Porsche Boxster, grabbed a buddy, and set out for a joyride. The fun abruptly ended when the driver lost control of the vehicle, plowed through a chain-link fence, and plunged 70 feet over a cliff. Amazingly, the kids walked away from the wreck with scratches and bruises, but little else -- apart from a dire sense of foreboding about their upcoming punishments. [Carscoop]

New 'Bottom-Of-The-Range' Porsche Model In The Works

New 'Bottom-Of-The-Range' Porsche Model In The Works

Porsche might want to lay off the hubris for a while. The company spent much of the past year tilting at the giant windmill known as Volkswagen and insisting that it isn't interested in new models or VW technology. Today, not only is Porsche owned by VW, but also we're getting word from Porsche's head of development, Wolfgang Duerheimer, that the company is working on a new "bottom-of-the-range" model, which is likely to borrow tech from VW. (Something like the BlueSport concept, perhaps?) It's nice to see Porsche thinking sensibly again, but will they be able to counter slumping sales and meet new efficiency requirements?[Drive.com.au]

Compared: 2010 Nissan 370Z Roadster Vs. Porsche Boxster / Cayman

Savages!

Who would dare to compare the Porsche Boxster--it's only the reincarnation of the 550 Spyder, you know--to a Datsun?

We would, and we're not the only ones. During the recent press preview for the 2010 Nissan 370Z Roadster, the Japanese carmaker's team laid it out in PowerPoint: the Z's a bargain Boxster, minus the fuss and admittedly, minus the fancy badge.

Is the badge enough to command an extra $20,000? With a revamped look, a shorter wheelbase, snappy handling and a luscious V-6 under the hood, the 370Z Roadster and Coupe are lower-priced than the Boxster and Cayman, but they're hardly cut-rate in the performance department....
