It's a clash of the Titanics: two hefty German-engineered two-doors battling it out for bragging rights in the mortgage-priced coupe class.

In this corner, the Bentley Continental GT, weighing in at a staggering 5500 pounds. It's a steamer locomotive of a coupe, though, with a twin-turbo W-12 engine pumping out more than 550 horsepower--and that's before you tune it to Speed trim, or shear off the top to make it a Conti GTC. The good news: Mercedes-Benz is offering the same AMG sports package for 2009 S-Class and CL-Class models as it does for the E-Class and C-Class. That's a first. Hooray.

Now, the bad news: despite AMG's position as the performance unit of Mercedes-Benz, the sports package is entirely cosmetic.

Included in the deal is a stylin' front apron with "large air intakes", intended to boost "the visual impact of the S-Class and the CL-Class". The rear apron? Also tweaked, featuring "a striking black insert". We're glad to see AMG's gone all-out for this one.
