Windows 7 Has Desktop Themes From Infiniti, Porsche, Ferrari

Microsoft has lost face in recent years -- both in court and in the marketplace -- but with the release of Windows 7, the folks from Redmond are working hard to restore the company's stature. One of the ways they're doing that is via strategic partnerships, including some targeted directly at auto enthusiasts. Example: a selection of Windows 7 theme galleries that allow users to customize their desktop environment with images and icons from Infiniti, Porsche, and Ferrari. (Sadly, the packs aren't backwards-compatible, so XP and Vista users are left out of the fun.) Even this simple move seems a sea-change for thoroughly proprietary...

Celeb News: Cristiano Ronaldo To Test The Ferrari 458 Italia

Cristiano Ronaldo has changed the face of soccer -- not to mention that of a few fine cars. You might recall that in January, Ronaldo had a confrontation with a brick wall in his Ferrari 599 GTB, which was okay for Ronaldo, but not so much for the supercar. Last we heard, Chrissy was looking seriously at a Lamborghini Gallardo, but like many his age, the guy has Wandering Eye Syndrome: new reports say that he'll be testing the Ferrari 458 Italia in Maranello, Italy very soon. As much as we like sports, we'd be inclined to lock the windows and bolt the doors for the duration. [LeBlogAuto, iffy Google translation here]

Today's Heinous Car Pic: Goldfinger Ferrari 599

Sometimes you just can't make this stuff up. From what deranged mind comes the idea of painting a Ferrari 599 solid gold and then polishing it until it shines?

The answer is: From someone who wants (or should we say needs pathologically) to show off in the worst possible way. And we do mean worst.

What scares us most is that it could actually be proper gilding. You know, the kind they do with sheets of real gold leaf.

Oh dear.
