Sometimes you just can't make this stuff up.

We've often dreamed about having a flamethrower on our car--you know, getting all Mad Max when you're ahead of us driving 15 mph slower than the speed limit while you're texting or something--but we never dreamed it was actually possible.

To the rescue comes Autoloc, part of Hoffman Group International. Sadly, they've made two minor alterations to our fantasy: First, their flamethrower is actually for the rear of the car, and second, they're very, very clear that it's "For Off-Road Use Only!"

Hyundai Gas Lock Delivers $1.49 Gas For New Buyers

In case you've been trapped in a cubicle for the past few months, it's summer again, and that means gas prices are making their march back up toward their peak. While fears of $4 per gallon gas aren't prominent - yet - Hyundai is pre-empting the rise with a promise of $1.49 gas for a full year, or 12,000 miles, for buyers that take home a new Hyundai before August 31.

The savings from the program, called Gas Lock, could be substantial, at least from a percentage perspective - average fuel prices are about $2.70 right now, and many of the larger markets in the country are well over $3 already. Deliver gas at around half price is an attractive...

GreenCarReports.com, a partner site to TheCarConnection, carried this story yesterday regarding the new federal economy standards. Editor-in-Chief John Voelcker cleaved through much of the rhetoric to highlight some important points overlooked by many media outlets.

Namely; - That California retains its rights to set its own standards after 2016. - That a new energy policy is coming, and that this is code speak for a huge new gas tax.

The first point clearly contradicts one of the main goals of the new regulation, that is to have one national standard. At least there will only be one set of rules for the next six years ... that gives...
