Arnold Schwarzenegger has led a charmed life: he's been a world-class bodybuilder, a Hollywood star, and apparently, an amateur cryptologist. He's also an auto enthusiast, so it's only natural that he's given a big thumbs-up to Vision Industries' new hydrogen fuel-cell big rig called the Tyrano. The name's a little strange -- with echoes of "tyrant" and "Tirana", take your pick -- but that's easily overlooked given the truck's range of 200 to 400 miles, depending on tank size. Of course, high-tech vehicles like this don't come cheap, and given the state of America's hydrogen infrastructure, the Tyrano will be limited to California roadways...

Back in August, Viknesh Vijayenthiran reported on rumors that Honda would launch a zero-emission battery electric vehicle in the US by 2015. The vehicle in question was described as a lithium-ion battery-powered minicar, and there was some speculation that Honda would unveil a prototype at the Tokyo Motor Show this October.

The rumors stemmed from articles in several Japanese media outlets, including the Nikkei daily, but they were  never officially substantiated by Honda -- until now. Some gearheads of our acquaintance are wary of EVs and fuel cells, worried that they'll provide the service of driving without any of the fun. But late last week, a team of engineering students from Ohio State University took their hydrogen fuel cell vehicle to the Bonneville Salt Flats and averaged 300.992 mph over the run. (Top speed: a whopping 304 mph.) Even better: it's the second vehicle the team has designed that's been able to break the 300 mph mark -- the first being a standard EV.
