Panasonic Launches Pricey Blu-ray Player, In-Dash HD Satnav

Tech fans and early adopters, take note: Panasonic is prepping for the Japanese release of its new in-dash high-def navigation system and an in-car Blu-ray player. The latter is pretty standard, although its ¥99,750 ($1080) price tag isn't. However, that's nothing compared to the satnav, which not only plays media, but also provides navigation assistance via Windows Automotive, Google Maps, and Yahoo! Japan. The retail? ¥365,400 ($3,955). No word on when these babies will come to America, but we hope it'll be a while -- we need to save some pennies. [Engadget]

GMC Terrain Debuts In New York: But Can It Trump CR-V?

We wrote last weekend about GMC's 2010 Terrain small crossover, meant to do battle with the likes of the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. At 30 mpg highway with its base 2.4-liter four-cylinder, the Terrain trumps the former by 3 mpg highway, the latter by 2. We're especially interested to see how this engine delivers its torque in the lower portion of the operating range, as the CR-V and RAV4 feel adequately torquey down there, offering a compelling mix of efficiency and drivability.

The Terrain's six-speed auto should help, giving the direct-injected four plenty of ratios to choose from to make the most of its 182 hp. But as always, the proof...

Link Love From The Car Connection: Detroit In Pictures, Self-Healing Paint Jobs, And Car Wraps, Japanese Style

Pretty city -- Despite the hits Detroit has endured in recent months, there are plenty of people willing to take those lemons and make lemonade--and by "lemonade", we mean sumptuous, four-color photographs of the city's former industrial glory. She may look a little rough around the edges, but we've always has a weakness for the ones who've been around the block. [Reliques, via JPD] Set it and forget it -- From extreme Botox to nanotechnology, there's a lot of talk about "smart tools" to keep people young and healthy. The auto equivalent has been discovered by folks at the University of Southern Mississippi: self-healing car paint. Victory...
