VW, Mercedes, Honda Models—And Porsche—Top APEAL Study

Porsche ranks as most appealing nameplate for the fifth consecutive year. That's according to J.D. Power and Associates' 2009 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study, which was just released.

Yet Porsche only had one top-placing model in Power's study, the Cayenne. Across all models, the 2009 Mercedes-Benz S-Class receives the highest APEAL score for 2009, for a third consecutive year.

The study measures how satisfied new owners are with their vehicles after the first three months of ownership, with questions regarding more than 90 attributes. It covers more than 80,000 purchasers and lessees of 2009 model-year vehicles,...

Volkswagen Invests South Of The Border

Volkswagen has set a lofty goal of tripling VW and Audi sales in the U.S. by calendar year 2018. To help meet that objective, the company began construction of a new factory facility in Chattanooga, Tennessee in May. Now comes word that the company is also investing a whopping $1 billion to expand and improve its only existing North American facility--and the company's largest outside Germany--located in the state of Puebla, Mexico.

The investment comes as that plant (formally known as "Volkswagen de Mexico S.A. de C.V.") prepares to add a new vehicle to its production lineup, which currently includes the Jetta/Bora and the New Beetle. VW...
