Dynamically designed and arrestingly attractive, Land Rover's LRX concept has won much praise on the auto show circuit--so much so that it is being rushed to production. Previous reports have suggested that it could be revealed in production trim as early as the middle of next year--June 17 2010 to be exact--and now Land Rover has confirmed the vehicle for production.

Why the specific June 17 date? Because this marks 40 years to the day since the original Range Rover was first revealed to the public, and since the production LRX will be badged as a Range Rover it is entirely possible that this is when it will be revealed.

The Snatch Land Rover has an unfortunate name and an even more unfortunate history: though used frequently by the British military, the model has come under criticism for offering too little protection to troops. In fact, since 2005, 37 soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan and Iraq while riding in the vehicles. Now, the mother of one of those soldiers has won a victory in court: although justices won't review the safety of the vehicles themselves--at least not yet--they will investigate why the British government has refused to hold a safety inquiry in the first place. The 2009 Mercedes-Benz G-Class, 2009 Hummer H2, and 2009 Range Rover rank as the most expensive SUVs to insure, according to the insurance shopping site Insure.com.

The G-Class has especially expensive parts, while the H2 is known to cause way more damage than average to other vehicles when in an accident; the Range Rover, on the other hand, is a theft target.
