We're just weeks away from the automotive extravaganza known as the Frankfurt Auto Show, but MINI's 50th anniversary celebrations have been spilling onto the web through its Coupe Concept for days now. Mini has just announced availability of an app that it's billing as the first of its kind: a roadside assistance app that phones home to report your vehicle's key information and your exact GPS location.

Available for free to Mini owners (iTunes link), the app duplicates functionality commonly seen in higher-end telematics systems, which are generally expensive options even on already well-equipped luxury vehilces. They can also require monthly service fees to maintain.
