Video: LTE Connected Car May Be The Future Of Telematics

Over the past couple of weeks, we've mentioned several systems that bring home computer-like services to automobiles. We've discussed proprietary systems like Ford's Microsoft Sync and its rumored Hyundai rival, and, at the other end of the spectrum, in-car routers that function as "dumb pipes", bringing Wi-Fi to laptops and other web-enabled devices. Just yesterday, we wondered aloud when this technology would merge and simplify, shifting from static systems to something more like the internet computing we know and love: customizable, flexible, and adaptable to the diverse needs of drivers.

File Under 'We Want': The MINI Speedster

File Under 'We Want': The MINI Speedster

Yes, ladies and gentlemen: that's what the MINI would look like as a roadster. Strike that: will look like. It's called the MINI Speedster, and it's heading your way. Eventually.

The Speedster will be based on the MINI Cooper convertible, but rather smartly ditches the back seat. It'll come equipped with a softtop, though folks worried about cleanliness, hailstorms, and the occasional switchblade can order a hardtop cover, too. Also of note: that Larry Craig-esque wide stance. Manly, no?

The Speedster should drop in 2011, with a starting price rumored to be around £18,000 ($26,300). Based on the pics, we think it'll be worth the wait....

Subaru Gives 2010 Outback World Premiere At NYC Show

Subaru's one of the few automakers who enjoyed sales increases for 2008. Today at the New York International Auto Show they introduced their new 2010 Outback, which is based on the completely redesigned 2010 Legacy chassis.

It's fitting Subaru chose the U.S. for the 2010 Outback's release; many of the Outback's exceedingly loyal, go-anwhere iconoclast customers are located in the States. The new Outback, they say, is the second example of their "customers come first" design philosophy, the first being the wildly successful 2009 Subaru Forester. The U.S. is clearly the most important market for the new Outback.
