Audi's 2010 Countdown: A8, A7...and A6?

Audi's 2010 Countdown: A8, A7...and A6?

Audi is in the midst of a transformation--according to company executives, it's the right moment in history for the brand to push through brand prejudices in the U.S. and to find a place alongside Lexus, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

Change has already come to Audi for the 2010 model year: this week, Audi took High Gear Media for first drives in the R8 V-10 supercar, the S5 Cabriolet and the S4 sport sedan. The real action starts next year, however, as Audi unveils a replacement for its large A8 luxury sedan, shows the production version of its A7 four-door coupe, and polishes off development on a new A6 range.

Volvo DRIVe Lineup Adds XC60, XC70, and S80 for Geneva

Following on its Paris Motor Show intro of a trio of highly efficient diesels dubbed DRIVe, Volvo adds more technology, one engine, and four models to the DRIVe portfolio. The point of these 1.6- and 2.4-liter diesel fuel sippers is economy and exceedingly low CO2 emissions; the smallest vehicle in this lineup earns about 60 mpg (converted to U.S. EPA numbers) while the biggest and heaviest SUV version gets 39 mpg by the same yardstick.

The funky C30 hatch, S40 sedan, and V50 wagon earn higher mpg this time around by virtue of a new engine stop/start system that yields four to five percent economy improvements in mixed use and up to an...

GT by Citroën Will Leave Us in the Dust, For Real

Back in October at the Paris Motor Show, Citroën unveiled the GT by Citroën (or sometimes, more annoyingly, the GTbyCitroën). It was a concept car, and like many concept cars, it was supersnazzy. Unlike many concept cars, however, the GT was designed for a videogame. That's right: working in conjunction with driving simi studio Polyphony Digital, Citroën created the car exclusively for the virtual raceways of Gran Turismo 5: Prologue. Of course, unveiling a car on screen isn't nearly as dramatic as doing so in 3D, so for Paris, Citroën built a lifesize replica. It was appropriately shiny and sleek and escorted by a dieselpunk-ish booth babe....
