Think You Get Side Airbags On A Used Car? Don't Be So Sure.

Think You Get Side Airbags On A Used Car? Don't Be So Sure.

You thought you got a great deal on a nearly new vehicle that was used as a company car. Yet weeks or months later, you find out that it doesn’t actually have the side bags on board.

With any luck, you’ll find that out before serious accident or injury, or before signing on the dotted line in the first place.

This could happen to you if you’re not careful. If you look at a late-model used car that was formerly in a rental fleet, there’s a chance that it won’t have side airbags—even if it’s a model for which side or side-curtain bags were listed as standard equipment.

iPhone App Du Jour: Avis Rent-A-Car

iPhone App Du Jour: Avis Rent-A-Car

Taking a cue from innovative thinkers who've learned to monetize farting, belching, yodeling, and other profit-rich activities, Avis has finally entered the iPhone app arena. The company's new free application (link opens in iTunes) allows you to search for and rent vehicles in a variety of locations around the country. Given its smokin' two-star review, we expect the app to work about as well as rental car websites -- which means we expect the same confused faces at the Avis counter when we arrive to pick up our convertible for the weekend. Oh well: it's the thought that counts. [Avis via Jalopnik]

It's a way for 14 people, at least some of them presumably inebriated (and the video mentions "stoned" as well), to travel through the streets of the Dutch capital without getting behind the wheel of a motor vehicle.

Given that the Dutch now log more miles on their bikes than on their automobiles (being an almost entirely flat country helps), it was probably inevitable.

Now, two accidents involving Beer Bikes--one that caused an injury--have transportation councillor Hans...
