Apparently, the owner thought the base model was too humdrum, so he called up the tuners at Anliker and forked over $4 million to make it extra spicy. Mercedes-Benz says it's celebrating the end of the production run of its SLR McLaren with a final edition that's stripped down, stoked up and named for the most famous racer to pilot one of its cars.

The 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss is the swan song for what Benz calls the best-selling supercar of all time. The basics are all there--a 650-horsepower supercharged V-8, a 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 218 miles per hour.

The transformation into a Stirling Moss SLR exchanges the two-seater's already minimal top for a roofless, windshield-free experience.  Also unique: a super-brief production run of just 75...
