Mazda has announced equipment details for the Premacy, its Japan-market compact minivan that closely parallels the Mazda5.

Based on this, it's likely that the 2010 Mazda5 will return with just a few minor equipment changes.

In Japan, the Premacy gets a new fuel economy gauge and a newly redesigned glossy piano black center panel, plus new fabric and door trim for some models. Also for the first time rearview and sideview cameras are offered as a dealer-installed option, so we might also see this show up as an option in the 2010 Mazda5.

Several new colors have been added, including this attention-getting Dark Plum Mica.

Hot on the heels of the recently unveiled BMW 5-Series GT comes word that a 3-Series GT is also in the works. Expected to be based around the next-generation 3-Series Sedan, due around the same time, the addition of the 3-Series GT will lift the 3-Series body count to five (coupe, convertible, sedan, wagon and the GT five-door).

The 3-Series GT should get the same raised seating position and ride height as the bigger 5-series GT and will also likely adopt a two-tier rear hatch design. Both RWD and xDrive AWD configurations are expected as well, with power coming from a range of four- and six-cylinder engines.

In case you've been trapped in a cubicle for the past few months, it's summer again, and that means gas prices are making their march back up toward their peak. While fears of $4 per gallon gas aren't prominent - yet - Hyundai is pre-empting the rise with a promise of $1.49 gas for a full year, or 12,000 miles, for buyers that take home a new Hyundai before August 31.
